KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Police have detained another local man to assist in investigations into a cable theft case in Sri Petaling here.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the 32-year-old man was believed to be the driver of a Ford Ranger which was pursued on Monday from the Awan Besar Toll Plaza heading towards Klang (West) before the chase ended at Jalan Hang Tuah 4.

“The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Sept 8 for further investigation. He has 20 previous criminal records and six drug-related records,” he said in a statement today.

On Monday, a police team fired several shots before detaining a 29-year-old man suspected of cable theft after the Ford Ranger driven by his accomplice attempted to flee a police inspection in Sri Petaling.

In the 9.30 am incident, the vehicle attempted to ram police officers before skidding and crashing into a grey Mazda at Jalan Hang Tuah 4, after which the driver fled the scene.

A search of the vehicle uncovered various tools believed to be used for cable theft, along with several suspected stolen cables.

The case is being investigated under Sections 307, 427 and 379 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
