Two accused flee Kulim court, one slides down pillar to escape police
KULIM, Aug 12 — Two men attending a case mention at the Kulim Magistrate’s Court here today fled the court compound after spotting police officers waiting to re-arrest them in connection with another case.
Kulim police chief Supt Syamsul Sinring said the incident occurred at about 10am after both accused, aged 27 and 31, had completed their case mention and document submission.
He said both men were facing charges under Sections 324 and 353 of the Penal Code and had been granted bail pending trial after being charged at the same court on April 30.
“The first accused was granted bail of RM4,000 while the second was granted RM3,000. The case was fixed for re-mention on June 8, July 12 and today for document submission and case management,” he said in a statement today.
Syamsul said after completing the court proceedings, both men exited through the rear door before spotting police officers from the Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) District Police Headquarters at the front entrance, who were there to re-arrest them in connection with another case.
“One of them immediately fled within the court compound and slid down a pillar from the first floor, while the other re-entered the building before escaping through the rear route.
“Both subsequently escaped by climbing over the rear fence,” he said, adding that police were working to locate the two men.
Earlier, a 24-second video went viral showing chaotic scenes at the Kulim Court Complex, in which a man believed to be one of the accused was seen climbing over a fence before fleeing. — Bernama
